Certified organic vineyard, Bannockburn New Zealand

Calvert Pinot Noir 2020

A single vineyard Pinot Noir from Felton Road, Bannockburn, Central Otago. One vineyard, one variety — only 1,881 bottles made from the 2020 harvest.

Certified organic. Minimal intervention. Made with the intention of letting the site speak for itself.

The 2020 Calvert Pinot Noir is dark ruby red in colour.

The nose is dominated by savoury characters of earthiness, black Doris plum, blackberry compote, and cardamom spices.

This leads to a wine with silky textured smooth tannins.

The earthiness thread becomes the backbone of the palate and is complemented by the rounded, brooding dark fruit characters and spiciness creating a luscious lingering mouth feel.

2020 is a cooler seasoned slower ripening vintage for the Calvert vineyard resulting in a solid wine with great cellaring potential.

94/100

Tight and focused, red-tinged floral fruits interwoven with bright punchy acidity and an edge of cinnamon-tinged whole bunch gives extra layer of interest. Taut and textural, this is a wine to cellar.

93/100

Elegant, youthful pinot noir with dark cherry, plum, floral/violet, vanilla bean and mixed spice flavours. A core of sweet fruit is perfectly balanced by gentle acidity and fine, peppery tannins. Accessible now but with good cellaring potential.

Bob Campbell MS The Real Review

Seductive and complex bouquet with scents of dark berries and sweet barrel spices, a core of crushed rock earthy complexity, nutmeg and vanilla, barrel smoke, dark raspberry and black currant, a whisper of incense and dark roses. In other words — complex and beguiling. Very youthful on the palate with a taut mouthfeel led by an abundance of chalky tannin textures and youthful fruit flavours.
