96/100 PointsFabulous bouquet driven by ripeness, youth and vibrancy. Scents of ripe concentrated black cherry cushioned against a savoury-dried-herb quality giving this wine a sense of place. Other aromas include clove and baking spices of barrel, dried earthiness and a suggestion of florals. Outstanding.
Certified organic vineyard, Bannockburn New Zealand
Calvert Pinot Noir 2021
A New Zealand wine with great personality, borne of small things done beautifully — one vineyard, one variety, one wine.
Hand-crafted Pinot Noir from the Calvert family's Felton Road vineyard in Bannockburn — family-owned since 1989, certified organic, made with minimal intervention to put the land first.
The 2021 Calvert Pinot Noir is dark ruby red in colour.
The nose is dominated by savoury characters of earthiness, black Doris plum, blackberry compote, and cardamom spices.
This leads to a wine with silky textured smooth tannins.
The earthiness thread becomes the backbone of the palate and is complemented by the rounded, brooding dark fruit characters and spiciness creating a luscious lingering mouth feel.
2021 is a cooler seasoned slower ripening vintage for the Calvert vineyard resulting in a solid wine with great cellaring potential.

96 / 100 PointsDark cherry, plum, and spice notes, with silky tannins and a long savoury finish. Part of New Zealand Pinot Noir: Vintage report and 40 new releases rated.
94/100 PointsPerfumed wholebunch, stemmy, aromatic, quite complex. Energetic fruit with floral nuances over juicy, ripe fruit which enters red and finishes black. Good concentration and quite plush; an accessible and user-friendly style which nonetheless has density to benefit from ageing.
We made it to John Saker's 2024 "The List". Te Whenua's 2024 Central Otago PN tasting 21-22 March 2024. At the Te Whenua tasting, 20 wines gained selection to The List — a success rate of roughly 33 per cent, the most of any pinot region so far.
